Srinagar among dirtiest cities: There is need for improvement in SMC; says Dy Mayor | KNO

Srinagar, March 15 (KNO) : Deputy Mayor Srinagar, Sheikh Mohammad Imran Friday said recent Swachh Survershan Survey-2019 rankings have given highlighted several loopholes in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and there is a need for creating a vibrant system in the corporation. According to a statement issued to KNO, he said despite SMC had worked tremendously for providing better services, but due to some technical faults, they were left for low rankings. Imran said there is a need for cooperation among the employees and higher officials so that these things will not be repeated in the future. “We has worked consistently throughout these months in many areas such as Solid Waste Management, Door to Door garbage collection, Encroachment drives, and other citizen services but unfortunately due to some minor faults, SMC secured 357th rank in the survey,” Imran said. Deputy Mayor admitted that concerned officers of the corporation had also not completed their targets as per the survey and assured that in upcoming Swachh Survershan the ranks of Srinagar will be improved. “We will try to ensure that both center and state-sponsored schemes targets will be achieved in this year and people will see the vibrant change in the city,” he said. Imran said sanitation workers toil their blood and sweat. We need to empower them with modern equipment and clear all their pending demands. Imran said there is need for improvement in the SMC and within the next few months all things will be placed in the right manner. “SMC will more also focus digital documentation and would also for the as Open Defection Free (ODF) rankings this year,” he said. “There deficiencies and SMC have to work for improving ranking by proper documentation and that will boost service quality and support,” he said. Regarding Srinagar Master Plan, he said there will be zero tolerance on illegal constructions across the city. Imran said people are advised to not to go for illegal encroachments otherwise their structures will be demolished by anti-encroachment teams of SMC.(KN0)
